With summer temps arriving full force early this summer, mid June to be exact, the fish have already gone to their summer patterns. Early mornings and late evenings look for schooling fish around shallow humps, use online spinners and top waters. When fish go down, switch over to chrome jigging spoons. During middle of the days, we are trolling using the hellbender/pet rigs. Fish are stacking up on midlake humps and points in water 12-15 feet. Let out about 30-40 feet of line behind your boat and run boat at walking speed.
Once fish are located on your graph, toss out a marker buoy. On cloudless days, the fish will stack up thick and not move much, making it easier to pinpoint and catch them.
A few Hybrids are being caught on deep diving crank baits around deeper humps and ledges.
A thermocline has already set up around 21 feet. Fish won’t be below it. Sandies tend to stack up shallower and Hybrids will suspend around humps and ledges.
Crappie are being caught on brush piles, shadedbridge columns as well as deep shaded docks on small jigs and small Minnows.
Blue catfish being caught on cut shad drifted in water 10-20 feet. Channel catfish being caught around fish cleaning stations on livers and blood bait.
Largemouth bass are decent around shades deep docks and riprap along dam using trick worms or Carolina rigged plastic worms. Also some being caught on spinnerbaits around any submerged vegetation.
Bream and or bluegills being caught in small crickets. Fish with light line around shaded docks.
Also to beat the heat, night fishing under bridges can be a cool way to fish cooler temps. But to stay out of the hot sun. Take a floating light, drop it next to your boat, wait for the bait fish to come in, then fish minnows 8-10 feet underneath the lights.
