With the water temp now in the low 60’s, fishing is heating up, white bass are coming back out of the creeks after spawning and are stacking up on main lake humps and points, 18-24 feet of depth, with most fish being caught 3-5 feet off the bottom.
We are using chartreuse and chrome jigging spoons with a crappie jig tied above it to catch 2 at a time. Lots of undersized hybrids mixed in, so check fish carefully to make sure what you have is legal.
Crappie are being caught under shaded docks, 4-8 ft on small jigs by shooting method, and also above brushpiles jigged vertically.
As water continues to warm, shad will start their spawning cycle and push up against metal retaining walls which will bring in all species of bass, crappie, both blue and channel catfish.
Use swim baits or rattletrap type lures to target bass and small swim baits and jig for crappie. Use a small weighted cork with either cut shad or small shad under it, cast near a retaining wall, ones that are wind blown are better.
